As a lifelong member of the Defence community, former serving member, Defence spouse and Defence mum, I bring lived experience alongside extensive recruitment, APS and career development expertise. I understand the impact career disruption, relocations and changing priorities can have on professional identity and confidence.

 

I created Sorted by Kath in 2020 to provide personalised, strategic career support that combines clarity and confidence coaching with high-impact professional writing and practical job search support.

Sorted by Kath wasn’t built on theory.

 

It was shaped by lived experience.

​

My career has taken me through Defence, the Australian Public Service and recruitment, giving me insight into both sides of the employment equation: how people experience career change and how employers assess capability and potential.

​

But my perspective extends beyond professional experience. I understand what it means to navigate postings, career disruption, changing family priorities and the challenge of rebuilding your professional identity when life takes you in a different direction.

​

Those experiences now underpin how I work with my clients. I don't simply write documents or prepare people for interviews. I help them uncover the capability and achievements they often overlook, translate that value into language employers understand, and build the confidence to communicate it themselves.

Supporting Defence partners through PEAP

As a Defence spouse myself, I understand the impact relocations, postings, career interruptions and uncertainty can have on professional identity and career progression. Eligible Defence partners can access up to $1,500 per financial year through PEAP for approved employment support services.

 

I offer dedicated PEAP pathways for both new and returning clients, combining career direction, professional documents, confidence and practical career support.
